The article examines current trends in the development of socio-economic space in Russia. It analyses the dynamics of rural population and manufacture of agriculture and forestry products at the national and regional levels. It reveals the narrowing of the populated and developed space, the attraction of the rural population to large cities, the increase in polarization and fragmentation of the space due to the concentration of agro- and forestry production and integration of agricultural and forestry enterprises into major inter-regional vertically integrated structures.
