The article is devoted to the increasing role of the emotional state of a person in any sphere, including educational and professional. It substantiates the urgency of the matter under consideration and the necessity of systematic and purposeful activity on the study of post-graduate students’ emotional state during the learning or working process. It presents the experience of the group of psychological and pedagogical support at the Research-and-Education Center for Economics and Information Technology of the Institute of Socio-Economic Development of Territories of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The work considers goals and objectives of the group, the main directions of its activity – diagnostic, developmental, preventive-educational. Under the diagnostic direction the group studies the emotional state of post-graduate students of the Institute of Socio-Economic Development of Territories of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which reveals the emotional attitude of respondents to the following components: work, education, relationships with a supervisor, colleagues and a department head. We analyze research results and indicators dynamics by each studied criterion for the period 2009 – 2015. In addition, we present the detailed analysis in the assessment of emotional comfort of graduate students by scientific departments, since psychological climate at the workplace has a direct impact on the health and emotional state of employees. To confirm high results of the monitoring of the emotional state of post-graduate students we present the dynamics of their publication activity and the number of dissertation defenses, i.e., those indicators that prove the effectiveness of scientific activity of post-graduate students. The final part of the article identifies the measures that promote optimization of emotional comfort of the surveyed and formulates the conclusions regarding the feasibility of further development and improvement of work on psycho-pedagogical support of post-graduate students of the Institute of Socio-Economic Development of Territories of the Russian Academy of Sciences
