The author of the article uses the materials of the Vologda Oblast for 2005–2016 to analyze the structural shifts and proportions in the regional economy. The article covers the patterns of socio-economic development processes in the region at the level of economy as a whole, its sectoral and institutional structure at all key stages of the reproductive process – production, education and use of income. Significant transformations in the structure of output expressed in reduced share of commodity production and share of services are identified. The article explains the growth of resource intensity of output in the economy and the reduction of its overall economic efficiency. The process of reducing the share of employees’ wages and the growth of gross profit and gross mixed income in the structure of income is marked. It is demonstrated that the increasing share of profit of organizations in the structure of economic income does not provide a sustainable growth of gross fixed capital formation. It is concluded that the regulation of social reproduction in the Vologda Oblast is weak and there are problems in the sectoral and reproductive structure of GRP, in the structure of investment, final consumption and savings, which constrains modernization processes and lowers the quality of life. The methodological framework of the study is the theory of national accounting. Traditional procedures for macroeconomic and macrostructural analysis and methods of mathematical statistics are used in the analysis. The reliability of results is provided by using general scientific methods (system approach, data analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, analogy) and special methods of economic research (generalization of economic facts, methods of grouping, comparison, structural analysis of economic indicators)
